Introduction:

Join our class on creating beautiful floral arrangements with a focus on environmental sustainability. Emphasising seasonal Australian-grown flowers, you will learn to celebrate the beauty and imperfections that nature offers. Discover techniques for arranging flowers using alternative containers and mechanics that promote sustainability.
 
This course covers strategies to avoid, reduce, reuse, and recycle in floristry. You will explore the impact of floral foam and learn about alternatives to reduce reliance. Through discussions and practical exercises, you will create floral designs with an earth-conscious focus, incorporating hand-tied and base medium techniques.
 
Embrace the art of floristry with an eco-friendly approach in this inspiring and practical course.
 

What you will learn:

  • Arranging seasonal flowers – exploring foam free mechanics 
  • Earth conscious floral head piece
  • Spring vase design

Units of Study:

  • FSKOCM003 Participate in familiar spoken interactions at work
  • FSKDIG001 Use digital technology for short and basic workplace tasks

Entry Requirements

  • There are no formal entry requirements for this skill set. However, it is expected that students who enrol in this course already have some basic floristry experience.
  • To enhance the quality of learning, students can only enrol in a single skill set at any given time and can explore each skill set just once.
  • Learners must not have successfully completed more than one unit of competency attached to this course listed under Units of Study Required for this Skill Set

Course Duration & Hours

  • Classes are delivered face to face
  • 3 days of classroom onsite learning 9:30am – 2:30pm
  • 3 week duration
  • Delivery location: Mullumbimby Campus

Course Fees

Course Fees are fully subsidised for eligible students.

  • ACE Program Fee: $0*  - most NSW residents are eligible for this subsidised fee!
  • Full Fee: $500


We kindly remind students that $100 cancellation fee will apply only to those who not attend any sessions of the Skill Sets course, and we encourage timely communication if any unforeseen circumstances prevent attendance.
This training is subsidised by the NSW Government.

*Student eligibility for ACE Program fee

To be eligible for government subsidised training through the ACE Program, you must:

  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or humanitarian visa holder, or a New Zealand; and
  • Live or work in New South Wales; and
  • Be aged 15 years or older; and 
  • No longer be at school or equivalent; and
  • Provide the College with your USI at the time of enrolment (admin staff can assist you in obtaining a USI); and
  • Not have successfully completed one or more of the unit of competencies listed under Units of Study Required for an ACE Program course

USI

From the 1st of January 2015, any student enrolling in an Accredited Training course will be required to obtain a USI. The USI helps to keep your training records and results together in an online account which is controlled by you. You can logon to the "USI website":http://usi.gov.au/Pages/default.aspx and follow the simple instructions online to create your USI. This then needs to be provided to the College at the time of enrolment.

Leena Martens
 
Inspired by a love of flowers, Leena began her Floristry career in 1997.

With over 20 years’ experience in the industry creating floral designs for weddings, events and corporate clients, Leena followed her passion for training by teaching Floristry at Technical Colleges in Sydney for over seven years. Following her relocation to the Tweed Coast, Leena has embarked on a new chapter in her career with the opening of her own freelance business that specializes in Floral workshops for the novice as well as those who just love to work with flowers.

Leena is excited to bring her knowledge and passion for Floristry to Byron Community College.
