Introduction:

A wonderful chance to gain knowledge on the key elements of Permaculture and how to integrate this into your home garden system.
 
We'll take a brief look at Permacultures foundations, zones, mapping, the soil food web, integrated pest management, compost, perennial species, weeds and integrated animal systems.
 
It's the perfect opportunity to see what Perm is all about and acquire ready to use, practical skills and knowledge.
 
Suited for beginners, it will be a mix of theory and practical activities, so wear your boots! Topics to be covered:
 
  • Permaculture foundations - what is Permaculture, principles and ethics
  • Reading your land - aspect, water access, soil health, terrain, coastal or inland, use 6 maps
  • Zones in permaculture
  • Mapping and design – quick practical using bubble mapping to plan out kitchen garden, compost bay, chooks, perennial veg, orchard. Use Caba bowls site map or participants personal homes.
  • Understanding soil and The Soil Food Web
  • Integrated pest management – crop rotation, biological controls, cover crops
  • Compost for soil health and waste management – practical – build a compost/ activate worm farm
  • Perennial species and species for functions – practical - design a tree guild and build
  • Weeds and what they tell us
  • Passive water system
  • Integrated animal systems

What to Bring:

- Notebook and pen
- Hat
- Boots
- Gloves if desired
- Water bottle
- Snacks and lunch (also option to buy pub lunch) 

 

Course Fees 

Fees are fully subsidised for eligible students.
  • ACE Program Fee: $0* - most NSW residents are eligible for this subsidised fee!
  • Full Fee: $240
We kindly remind students that a $100 cancellation fee will apply only to those who do not attend any sessions of the Skill Sets course, and we encourage timely communication if any unforeseen circumstances prevent attendance.
 
This training is subsidised by the NSW Government.

*Student eligibility for ACE Program fee

To be eligible for government subsidised training through the ACE Program, you must:
  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or humanitarian visa holder, or a New Zealand citizen; and
  • Live or work in New South Wales; and
  • Be aged 15 years or older; and 
  • No longer be at school or equivalent; and
  • Provide the College with your USI at the time of enrolment (admin staff can assist you in obtaining a USI); and
  • Have not successfully completed the units listed under '**Assessments are made against units of competency' for this course.** Refer to the top of this page.

Alice Hoffman Ross

Alice is a qualified Permaculturalist with a deep love and passion for soil and compost, Alice has made it her mission to share the importance of rehabilitating our soil and growing nutrient dense food.
“There is such beauty and gravity in nutrient cycling, a system so simple yet efficient, and one which will tremendously help to rebuild the health of our soils and thus, the health of humans.”

Alice is currently working as a Permaculture Facilitator and alongside Dan at Green For You, where their passion to make change in the community is coming to life. She is driven to grow the skills and knowledge around soil, composting and food waste within the community.
