Byron College News: What’s Happening and What’s Ahead

With the year drawing to a close, Byron Community College has been busy with classes, end of year assessments, and community events like the Mullum Christmas Trail and Permablitz.
The College continues to deliver outreach programs in the wider community. In partnership with First Sun Employment, it has been running the First Steps Outreach Program in Tweed, supporting First Nations learners to build skills in reading, writing, communication, numeracy, and digital literacy. The program helps learners rebuild confidence and opens pathways into further study.
Later this week, Year 10 students from Cape Byron Rudolf Steiner School are visiting, with activities run at Byron Community College as part of their end of year fun educational classes. They will learn to make coffees and cold drinks, and practise role play skills to take orders, bringing learning out into the community in a hands on, engaging way.
This December, the College will celebrate the completion of its Youth Program with a graduation ceremony. Now in its second year, the program has been so popular that next year’s spots are already filled. Young learners have gained hands on experience in woodwork, permaculture, art, cooking, floristry, and barista training, alongside essential workplace and foundation skills including digital literacy, problem solving, communication, reading, writing, numeracy, and first aid.
Byron Community College was a proud finalist at the Byron Business Awards 2025, recognising the College’s innovation, dedication, and positive impact on the local community.
From outreach to youth learning to certificate courses, the College continues to create opportunities for skills, growth, and connection. Applications are closing soon for Certificate courses in Visual Arts, Mental Health, Individual Support, and Permaculture, with expressions of interest being taken for Massage Therapy and Community Services.
