Introduction:

Want to write a screenplay or finally finish one? Join filmmaker Darius Devas for a 6-week screenwriting program to deepen your craft and unblock what’s holding you back. Learn powerful tools, habits, and processes developed over his 20-year career to build a sustainable, lasting writing practice.
 
Each session includes dedicated time to write, so you're not just learning about screenwriting—you’re actively working on your project as you go.
 
You’ll explore key elements like structure, character, and dialogue, while also addressing the inner blocks and limiting beliefs that can disrupt creative flow. With a balance of craft, practice, and reflection, this program supports both your screenplay and your evolution as a writer.
 
Whether you're starting fresh or picking up a script you’ve struggled to finish, this is a space to build momentum, gain clarity, and finally commit to your writing in a meaningful way.
 
Darius is a SXSW award winning filmmaker who has written and directed two feature films, several short films and is currently writing his next feature film.

Tutor Profile:

Darius Devas

Darius is an award-winning writer-director whose compassionate and reflective approach enables him to craft authentic, character-driven narratives. His screenwriting achievements include the feature films Further We Search (2009), Meeting Susan (2014), and Unravelling (2022), which he co-wrote with lead actors Duncan Ragg and Cazz Bainbridge.
 
Devas' writing career gained early international recognition with his interactive documentary series Goa Hippy Tribe for SBS TV, winning the prestigious 2012 SXSW Interactive Award for Film & TV alongside numerous festival selections worldwide. In 2011, he received a competitive writing scholarship to the esteemed Binger Institute in Amsterdam, furthering his craft in screenplay development.
 
His feature Further We Search, starring Xavier Samuel and Mark Leonard Winter, marked his debut as both writer and director. His short film Meeting Susan, starring Alison Bell, premiered at Sydney Film Festival in 2014. Most recently, Unravelling was selected for CinefestOz as an opening night film and screened at Brisbane International Film Festival, showcasing his collaborative writing process with performers.
 
Devas' documentary series The Common Thread, examining mental health in young Australians, reached over a million views online in 2019, demonstrating his ability to write compelling non-fiction narratives. In 2021, he received a scholarship to study a Graduate Diploma of Creative Business through David Court's Compton School at the University of Canberra, enhancing his understanding of the creative industries landscape.
