Introduction:
Step into a two-day immersive masterclass with Immortal Soil, the collaborative creative alliance of Bob Horan and Selena Murray. Explore their sculptural floral techniques and learn to forage and source materials mindfully and with intention. Together, you’ll create a large-scale onsite installation in the gallery space.
The workshop also includes guidance on achieving an “unstill vignette” in true Immortal Soil style. Participants are encouraged to bring one personal item that inspires them to integrate into the creative process. This is a study in impermanence, instinct, and nature.
This masterclass blends hands-on making, site-specific installation, and a deep dive into Immortal Soil’s approach to working with ephemeral materials.
Across two days, students can expect:
Day One:Students will begin by sourcing materials to build a strong structural foundation for a sculpture, with guidance on how to hide the mechanics of a botanical installation to create a mystical and seamless effect. The day will also cover techniques for attaching and shaping with a variety of materials, how to choose appropriate elements for the best outcome, and practical hints for mindful foraging. Participants will explore ways of incorporating living plants and fresh flowers into a living sculpture and consider approaches to creating site-specific works.
Day Two:
Students will collaboratively build a large-scale sculpture in the gallery space. Each participant will then create their own “unstill vignette” from botanical items, with the option to include a personal item they bring. The workshop will conclude with a photo shoot of everyone’s creation, which participants are welcome to take home.

Tutor Profile:
Immortal Soil is a collaborative creative alliance between Bob Horan and Selena Murray. They make living sculptural testaments that explore the magic, the death and decay within nature. Harkening to the call of their earth church, they meld the organic and industrial waste of humankind into vegetal, reverberating expressions of ephemeral wonder. Exploring the often overlooked and underused, they create large-scale immersive installations and photographic conjurings of unstill life.
