Course Duration
Start date: 28 April 2025
The course duration is 30 weeks
The weekly workload is 22 hours (classroom and home study combined)

Course Delivery
  • Face-to-face learning delivered at our Mullumbimby Campus: Mondays and Wednesdays - 9.00am - 3.00pm
  • Self-paced learning at home: 10 hours per week, including non-supervised assessment tasks
  • Work Placement: 80 hours (refer Work Placement section)
  • Assessments are conducted in a supervised (on-campus) and non-supervised (online) format

Admission Requirements
When studying with Byron Community College, we want you to succeed. This course involves reading and undertaking a range of written assessments. Entry requirements help us confirm that you're ready to successfully complete the qualification and get the most out of your learning experience.

Work Placement
You are required to complete 80 hours of work placement in the health and community service
 industry that formally contributes to the assessment process. This includes the need to collect and use information from the work placement as part of your overall assessment. Work placement is mandatory and an assessable component of the course. The college will assist you to arrange work placement, including providing a list of local facilities who take on students regularly to complete their work placement. Students are required to communicate with the college and tutor prior to undertaking any contact with work placement facilities.

Course Fees
The fees for this course are determined according to your individual circumstances. As it is included on the Smart and Skilled NSW Skills List, participants may be eligible for funding to subsidise their training. This funding could entitle you to reduced-fee training^

 
To be eligible for Smart and Skilled government subsidised training, you must:
Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or humanitarian visa holder, or a New Zealand citizen; and
Live or work in New South Wales; and
Be aged 15 years or older; and
No longer be at school or equivalent; and
Provide the College with your USI at the time of enrolment (admin staff can assist you in obtaining a USI)

Fee for service
If you are ineligible for Smart and Skilled funding, you can obtain information about the fee-for-service cost of this course from Byron Community College.
Course fees are paid in instalments scheduled throughout the duration of the course. Fee schedules for individual courses are outlined on the enrolment paperwork or are available from the college administration team.
 

Student Policies and Procedures

USI
From the 1st of January 2015, any student enrolling in an Accredited Training course will be required to obtain a USI. The USI helps to keep your training records and results together in an online account which is controlled by you. You can logon to the USI website here and follow the simple instructions online to create your USI. This then needs to be provided to the College at the time of enrolment.

Emma Paul

Emma’s background as a Counsellor, Psychotherapist and Coach, Somatic Therapist, Birth Doula and Buddhist Chaplain provides a diverse foundation from which to share knowledge and teachings related to Mental Health. 
 
Emma is passionate about empowering people on their journey to supporting others through their Mental Health studies and cultivates a safe, nurturing environment, ripe for learning. 
 
Holding a Diploma in Counselling and studying her Masters of Mental Health, Emma weaves her love of learning with her passion of Mental Health and Well-being in a fusion of Academia.
