This introductory course is designed to inspire your passion and prepare you to provide compassionate support to individuals facing the challenges of aging within an aged care setting.
Guided by our experienced practitioners, you'll develop the skills to deliver person-centred care and support for individuals living with dementia. You'll also learn to provide compassionate care for people with life-limiting illnesses, utilising a palliative approach and offering essential end-of-life support.

Entry Requirements
USI

Course Duration
- Intake date: 20 February 2025
- The course duration is 8 weeks
- The weekly workload is 11 hours (classroom and home study combined)
Course Delivery
- Face-to-face learning delivered at our Mullumbimby Campus: Thursdays - 9:00am - 4:00pm
- Self-paced learning at home: 4 hours per week, including non-supervised assessment tasks
- Assessments are conducted in a supervised (on-campus) and non-supervised (online) format
Units of Study
There are 3 units of competency that will be undertaken during the course, as a pathway to working in the aged care sector.
- CHCAGE011 Provide support to people living with dementia
- CHCAGE013 Work effectively in aged care
- CHCPAL003 Deliver care services using a palliative approach
Course completion
Following successful completion of this course, you will be awarded with a Statement of Attainment for these units of competency.

Course Fees
This course is subsidised by the NSW governments Adult and Community Education (ACE) program. You could be eligible for free training under this program.^
To be eligible for ACE funding, you must:
- Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or humanitarian visa holder, or a New Zealand citizen; and
- Live or work in New South Wales; and
- Be aged 15 years or older; and
- No longer be at school or equivalent; and
- Provide the College with your USI at the time of enrolment (admin staff can assist you in obtaining a USI)
- Have not previously completed the units listed under 'Units of Study'.

Fee for service

USI
From 1 January 2015 all students undertaking accredited training must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). This requirement applies to all nationally recognised training, from full qualifications to single-unit courses.
